What type of information can I back up?
The recommended (default) settings will synchronize your contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, photos, videos, text messages, songs, browser favorites and documents between your phone and your My Phone web account.
Please note the following:
- If My Phone detects content already being managed by connections with Microsoft Exchange server (which is frequently used for corporate e-mail and contacts) or the Windows Live mobile application, My Phone will not duplicate the syncing of this content.
- To sync an external memory card, "manual" settings should be chosen during setup as memory cards are not synced using the recommended (default) settings.
- Additional information on this topic is available in the Help content.
- How much data can I back up? The My Phone service provides 200 MB of free storage on the My Phone web site. If you exceed this limit, your existing information will be saved and you will receive an error message advising you to delete some content in order to continue syncing.
- Will the service back up my phone's information automatically? If you select the recommended settings, the service will automatically synchronize information between your mobile phone and web account daily between 11:00 P.M. and 5:00 A.M., except when your phone cannot connect to the data network such as when your phone is turned off, out of range, or roaming. You can also back up your data manually at any time by selecting Sync in the Microsoft My Phone application on your phone.
- Does the My Phone service work on any mobile phone? My Phone works on most phones that run the Windows Mobile 6+ operating system. This includes phones from many different manufacturers and mobile operators. To check which version of Windows Mobile your phone is using, click Start > Settings > About on your phone.
- What if I've already lost my mobile phone? If you lost your mobile phone before using the My Phone service (for instance, if you installed the software but did not perform a sync operation), you cannot use the My Phone service to restore your missing information. But if you used My Phone on your previous mobile phone, you can install My Phone on your new mobile phone and sign in using your Windows Live ID. All information that you backed up to your web account will be restored to the new phone the next time you sync.
